Current Research

Broadly, my areas of interest are race, family, stigma, and emotion. I am most interested in the ways that people narrate their own experiences and identities, and, in using narrative and emotion to tell me more about the way that the social world is ordered. Particularly, I am interested in the ways that racial hierarchies may infiltrate Black American families, as well as the ways that Black American people narrate their experiences of stigma through emotion within the family. To explore this, I use social/digital media (such as Tumblr), as well as archival materials, interviews, and observations.
